Defrosting the refrigerator, freezer, refrigerator - freezer
Defrosting a refrigerator:
- Turn off the appliance and unplug it from the power socket.
- Remove products and drawers from within the appliance.
- If a combined ice scraper / drainage channel is included with your appliance, make sure to fit the drip tray along with it.
- Defrost any ice build-up naturally by leaving the door(s) open.
- Clean and wipe the interior of your appliance with a damp cloth.
- Remove the drainage channel and re-insert the drawers.
- Close the appliance and reconnect the power supply.
- Turn the appliance back on and wait until it reaches its set temperature. This usually takes 4 to 6 hours.
- Further information can be found in your user manual. (If you do not have your user manual, refer to Where can I find the user manual for my appliance?).
Warning: Never use sharp objects to remove ice build-up. This may incur internal damage or cause a leak in the cooling system.
Defrosting a freezer:
The freezer must be defrosted when the layer of ice on the sides reaches a thickness of 10 – 15 mm. It will be easier to defrost the freezer when it's empty or only contains a few items.
Remove the ice as follows:
- Turn the appliance off.
- Remove any food products in the freezer, wrap them in several layers of paper, and store them in a cold place.
- Leave the door open, remove the plug from the drain and collect the water in a tray. You can also speed up defrosting, place a bowl of hot water in the oven and close the door. When pieces of ice have loosened, use a suitable scraper to quickly remove the ice.
- When you have finished defrosting, wipe the inside of the freezer thoroughly and re-insert the drain plug.
- Turn the appliance on.
- Set the temperature control dial to the lowest temperature, and leave the appliance at this setting for two to three hours.
- Put the food back in the freezer.
- Further information can be found in your user manual. (If you do not have your user manual, refer to Where can I find the user manual for my appliance?).
Tip: Use the FROSTMATIC function, if available.
Warning:
- Never use sharp metal objects to scrape off ice.
- They may damage the appliance.
- Do not use mechanical tools or other artificial aids to speed up defrosting, unless they are endorsed by the manufacturer.
- If the temperature of frozen foodstuffs rises during defrosting, their shelf-life may be shortened.
